Mixed Tape!

Happy New Year!
Actually, who gives a shit...just kidding, I'm actually looking fwd to some things happening in 2011!
What I've posted here is a mixed tape. It's not a "best of 2010" thing at all. I just thought since I'm not goin' out for New Years this year, I would make a mixed tape for my 11 hungover followers to wake up to tomorrow morning/afternoon. I wanted to put it in order(cuz thats the WHOLE point of a mixed tape, right? ease into it with something mellow...then some pop/punk, then hit 'em with some metal....THEN, for the last song....THEE grossest, heaviest song that was EVER recorded!!! ...ok, I mighta went off on the order thing there a bit...), but since the file names are all fucked(every song still has "band-song.mp3" type formula), it would have been too much, how cool are surprises??
Also, please keep in mind that these mp3's are from ALL over the place, and some of them are the very first mp3's I ever downloaded...before bitrate quality and tagging were big bare with some of the shitty quality and tagging.
Making this mix actually reminded me of alot of old cool shit, and has spawned some ideas for future blogging. Stay tuned and Happy New Year!!! dp

*Desert Island Week* Helmet - Strap It On

Artist: Helmet
Album: Strap it On
Release: 1990
Label: AmRep

3.Bad Mood
8.Make Room

#5...I thought long and hard about my final desert island album. It was a toss up between Meantime, and Strap it On. Both albums engineered in just about complete opposite ways. Strap it On is one of the both rawest, and tightest albums I've ever heard. This album has always been critically acclaimed due Page Hamilton's innovative stop/start staccato riffs and(then unheard of) drop d tuning.

Stay tuned, as I have decided to post a few of the hundreds of desert island runner-ups.

*Desert Island Week* UNSANE - Scattered, Smothered, and Covered

Artist: UNSANE
Album: Scattered, Smothered and Covered
Release: 1995
Label: AmRep

3.Blame Me
4.Out Listen
5.Can't See
6.Get off My Back
8.Empty Cartridge
9.No Loss
10.Test My Faith

#4. Definitely the most punishing and focused UNSANE record! This was the record where their songwriting started to become less spastic, and more groove orientated. Production? Flawless! This was UNSANE's first solid record with new drummer Vinny Signorelli (who replaced Charlie Ondras who died from a heroin overdose), and bass player Dave Curran. These guys are the pioneers of the Noise Rock genres. If you've been told to listen to UNSANE, but unsure what album to get...this is the one!

  11. Untitled#11
  12. Untitled#12
  13. Untitled#13

#2 of my dessert island albums. John Frusciante's 1994 dope soaked 4 track debut solo album. Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T Shirt were actually supposed to be 2 separate albums, but Rick Rubin insisted on it being one album. There is a lot of speculation as to when these albums were recorded. The most common being that Niandra Lades was recorded just before John's first departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Usually Just a T Shirt was recorded right after, while John fell deeper into heroin. John actually didn't want to release the album, it took Flea, Johnny Depp, Gibby Haynes and some other friends to convince him to actually release it. Lots of experimental backwards guitar, sequencers, and unbridled incoherent screaming. Check out the Bad Brains cover of Big Takeover. One of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard.

*Desert Island Week* Bruce Springsteen - Darkness On The Edge Of Town

Artist: Bruce Springsteen
Album: Darkness On The Edge Of Town
Release: 1978
Label: CBS

3.Something In The Night
4.Candy's Room
5.Racing In The Street
6.The Promised Land
8.Streets Of Fire
9.Prove It All Night
10.Darkness On The Edge Of Town

You know the classic music question: "If you were trapped on a desert island, what 5 albums would you take with you?". Well...this week(June7-June11), I'm going to be posting my "5 Desert Island Albums"(one a day)....starting with this one.
This album has a lot of history. I consider this to be Bruce's punk album, as he had some pent up writing and attitude due to the lawsuit between him and his manager regarding writing credits. The judge had put a ban on all future recording
until the suit was settled. Finally in the summer of '77 Bruce and the E Street Band were aloud to record again. Not wasting any time, they immediately settled in and recorded this masterpiece.

Album: Obey
Release: 1995
Label: Releasing Eskimo

1. Kill Them All
2. Die You Fuck
3. Anal Desire
4. Lipstick On My Dick
5. Drive Around
6. To Hurt
7. Obey
8. Fuckmeat

Another band that has been reading my diary, first post of an actual active band(as far as I know). Disgusting durge from Sweden's BRAINBOMBS. 2 pc(guitar and drumbs), haunting reverberated trumpet, and maniacal lyrics that would make Jeffery Dahlmer cry like a little bitch. You know how your friends tell you that you should listen to certain band, but you don't know what album to get cuz they've got 482 7inch's, and 15 full lengths? THIS is THEE BRAINBOMBS album to start with!!

Meet my new favorite band. Noisy as fuck!! Brooklyn NY's now defunct DRUNKDRIVER w/noise master Mattin contributing. Less structured than usual DD outings...and way noisier! This record will make you think there's something wrong with your speakers!

My Favorite album of 2009! Another defunct post-hardcore band. Considerably more produced than any other TAAS record. Excessively produced? Nope. Highlights: Woolen Heirs, Lucifer, Ethric Double, Barf. Great fucking live band!!
